The pattern calls for 34 fat quarters, but that was way more than is really needed, especially for the throw. Mom (Reb) used about 14-16 and it came out really cute! If you want it really scrappy where every single square is different then you will want 34 FQs but if you don't want it really scrappy just make sure you have 14 - 16 and you'll be all set. Maybe a few more if you want to make the larger quilt.
